Taft is a city in the central part of Taft city, which is located in Yazd province.<\/p>

The city of Taft is located in the southwest of Yazd province, 10 kilometers away from Yazd city, and due to its location on the slopes of Shirkuh, it has a cooler climate than other cities in Yazd province. The area of Taft city is 2000 hectares and its population is nearly 18,464 people according to the 2015 census.<\/p>

Taft is famous for its pomegranate orchards and its product, Taft Pomegranate, to the extent that one of the most beautiful and natural sights of this city is the alleys of this city in the autumn season, which coincides with the pomegranate ceremony. In this season, the city welcomes many tourists and photographers.<\/p>

Taft is an ancient region with a long history. This city has a historical connection with Yazd in every respect and its name has always been associated with it. In any case, the general area of Taft has existed since before Islam, and the location of the area and its historical discoveries prove the same issue, and according to Abdul Hossein Aiti, the author of the book History of Yazd (Fireplace of Yazdan), Yazd has never existed without Taft.

The word “taft” in Avesta means “heated”. Taft means heating, heat, warm or a wooden basket in which fruits are placed in a certain culture. In the Ghiyath al-Laghat book, it is mentioned about the word Taft: “The name of a place is a suffix of Yazd and a basket that they make to put flowers and fruits.” Dehkhoda culture is also given with a similar concept: “a round and shallow basket that is made of twigs or leaves and fruit is put in it, and its head is woven and secured on a leafy twig”. Considering the geographical conditions of this city, it can be said that the latter meaning seems to be more consistent with the location of Taft city in the names of four neighborhoods of Taft, including: Bagh Golabdan, Bagh Golestan, Bagh Khandan, Bagh Mortin, which begins with the prefix Bagh, and the neighborhoods of Rahat Abad and Hoz Bulbul also supports the concept of flower basket and fruit basket. Mirza Mohsen has the influence of Tabrizi’s long Masnavi called Hossein Attifaq, in the description of taft, which refers to the concept of flower basket and fruit basket. Mohammad Ebrahim Bastani Parisi, a contemporary historian and a well-known history writer, most of his writings are about the history of Iran’s desert, considers the name of the city of Taft to be related to its desert heat.<\/p>

The name Taft is mentioned in historical and mystical sources from the 9th century AH onwards along with the name of Shah Nematullah Wali.
